Tea Baggers Gone Wild

Moore's supervillan Adrian Veidt watched one hundred TVs simultaneously to glean trends. Me? I read metafilter, a microblogging collective from which narratives arise occasionally from the chatter.

Today, for example, I learned today that the Tea Baggers, gathered to protest health care legislation, went wild today, spitting on Rep. Emanuel Cleaver (D-Mo.), shouting ni**ger at Rep. John Lewis (D-Ga.) and "faggot" at Rep. Barney Frank (D-Mass.), and holding a sign that read "If [Sen.] Brown Can't Stop It, A Browning [pistol] Can".

I also learned via metafilter that Idaho, South Carolina, and Georgia are making moves towards forcing the feds to take back the gold standard.

Finally, today, I learned that we're on the teetering on the edge: an information revolution may tip us toward an empathic society--if we don't kill ourselves off first.

Put this chatter together with the recent LoS conversations regarding apocalypse 2012, together with rumors that Robert Erickson totally punked those Tea Baggers into chanting "Columbus Go Home!" (see his previously madness), together with my five-year-old son announcing that god is not real (he's "legendary") ... and all I see is revolution in the air.

  1. From NPR: After police had used deadly force suppressing a violent protest in Berkeley in 1970, Reagan famously remarked: "If it takes a bloodbath, let's get it over with."

    Context from snopes.

I am--emphatically--not suggesting that we "get it over with."

Just pointing out a parallel between those completely polarized, emotionally-charged times and por own. People get caught up in the headiness of it all and say dumb, dangerous things.

Imagine if Obama said something like that!

    Years of lead, baby!

  2. I am a strong partisan of free speech, no matter how disagreeable, so I don't want to suggest censorship or harassment of these people from the feds, but aren't they in essence threatening violence against elected officials?

Is it all hyperbole and theater? At what point does the Secret Service step in and ask these people: do you or do you not intend to use a Browning against politicians you disagree with?

Given the well-documented inflitration of the left by feds during the 60's, how much do you suppose they're in and among the Tea Party?

    How many are provocateurs?

I've read that many activists in the 60's said the quickest way to spot a fed was to look at the one most vocally advocating violence....

Is this more of the same, or are these people ready to go for it?

  3. Apparently, they are ready to go for it.

"After a tea party organizer published the address of the brother of Rep. Tom Perriello (D-VA) in a blog post urging anti-health reform activists to 'drop by,' someone cut a propane gas line at the house, Politico is reporting."

    And

"The Secret Service is investigating two Twitter users who, apparently angered by the passage of the health care reform bill, took to the Internet Sunday to call for the assassination of President Obama."

  4. "The federal government should not have the ability to command us to buy something that it decides we should buy," Vanderboegh said. The government, he added, has "absolutely no idea the number of alienated who feel that their backs are to the wall are out here . . . who are not only willing to resist this law to the very end of their lives, but are armed and are capable of making such resistance possible and perhaps even initiating a civil war."

Vanderboegh said he once worked as a warehouse manager but now lives on government disability checks.

    !

    Hypocrisy....
