Dear Laws of Silence:
First a bit of background on ectoplasm:
Definition | A substance said to be excreted by mediums during trances; a slime-like substance said to be associated with hauntings. |
---|---|
Signature | Said to be white/gray/transparent or any other colour, viscous; resembling mucus. Said to ooze from solid objects or from mediums' bodies involving mucous membranes (nose, eyes, mouth), and to take form as a misty substance. |

The text above (minus "Source: Wikipedia") was electronically cut-up four times, re-formatted, the punctuation eliminated, and given an aleatory title (on the ectoplasm page, the words "with the" were typed into "find" and, when found, the next two words were selected). I wish I could say that this geste had no particular purpose and wish even more I didn't have to say that the result has no particular value. The cut-up tool has merely repeated only a few of the words several times and eliminated several others. The secrets liberated from inside this prison of words thus do not shed any light on my question (forthcoming). Cybernetic bibliomancy has led nowhere, so fate has forced you upon me.

So the point, the question, is this. You fellows obviously think of yourselves as what Tzara's vulgar herd would consider clever men; whereas this opinion is debatable, it is undeniable fact that you both have noses. Tell us, then, pray: Is Caspar indeed the ghost of Richie Rich?
Kind regards,
Théophile Prades
Beaupuy, France
Thank you for your question, Théophile Prades. Thank you, also, for asking in English, because I cannot understand a lick of French, which is terribly inconvenient (not to mention embarrassing) in situations like this. To answer your question, Casper is not the ghost of Richie Rich. I understand the basis of the conspiracy theory (it is, after all, our egg-headed speciality to detangle such situations), but this was, in my opinion, just a case of a comic artist who could only draw so many characters; repeated look-a-likes were simply a consequence of limited drawing ability rather than a hint of the characters inhabiting the same comic universe.
ReplyDeleteTo whit, Wikipedia's extensive Casper history clearly documents that "The Friendly Ghost, the first Noveltoon to feature Casper, was released by Paramount in 1945"; whereas Wikipedia states that Richie Rich "debuted in Little Dot #1, cover-dated September 1953."
So Casper appeared before Richie Rich.
Obviously, however, I'm skipping about the nose of your post. It is true that there are two of us, and it is equally true that we both possess noses which thrust forth from our faces. Mine perhaps slightly less so than Daurade's, as he is clearly the more handsome blogger on this page.
But your poem was a welcome sneeze into our inbox, Prades. While I personally do not believe in ectoplasm as a residue of dead souls, I see that human fluids belched forth from our snouts have caused millions of death.
Influenza, baby, that's the rub.
Please keep in touch.
Yrs,
The Gid
Gid, the second Star Wars Trilogy appeared 20+ years after the first, yet depicted events which occurred prior to it. So, Caspar might have had his story told in comic books before Richard Rich but could still be the ghost of a dead RR.
ReplyDeleteFor some reason the US and the UK have really pushed the belief that Caspar is not a dead Rich, but there is a small, vocal coalition of primarily African nations -- though in-fighting and power struggles (not to mention Yankee efforts) have made it largely ineffective -- the African Rich - Caspar Coalition (ARC) has been trying to bring this into the public eye since the 600's, maybe even the late-50's. Part of the post-WW2 de-colonization process....
s the past fixed? Or is history written by the winners?

At first I was a bit weirded out because I was sure that it was "stein" bears, but now I seem to recall at some point I noticed it was "stain" bears and was like wtf? Now I'm not sure what I remember!
